Hobby

Nursultan Nazarbayev seeks to devote rare breaks in his work to his favourite activities, which are both rest and entertainment for him. These are communication with nature, sports, music and reading.  It has been well said that to have a rest for a wholesome person is just to change the type of activity.

Nature

Nursultan Nazarbayev was born at summer high mountain pasture of Zailiyskiy Alatau. That is why the flavours of mountain herbs, wormwood in the parching steppe and the orchard he took care after together with his father – followed him all his childhood and youth. Love for native land, its fauna and flora, his strong desire to visit the most beautiful places of dear Kazakhstan even for a short while and to commune with wild life became a part of his own nature.  

Music

Music plays an important role in the life of the First President. Elbasy’s parents always liked and could sing. His mother Alzhan Nazarbayeva sang especially beautiful. Her son inherited her talent undoubtedly. Young Nursultan listened to and sucked in different songs and tunes both ancient and modern from his childhood. Nursultan Nazarbayev plays dombra and sings himself at his leisure time. It is well known that the First President composed three songs and became a co-author of the Republic of Kazakhstan Hymn text.

Reading

Besides sports, music and walking in the wild nature, Nursultan Nazarbayev puts a lot of time into reading books. He developed this passion from his young years just as he learned how to read. After many years, his love for books did not fade away. One of his favourite activities is to isolate himself with a book in his hands as before.  He loves the works of famous Kazakh writers and poets, such as Abay, Mukhtar Auezov, numerous Russian and world literature classical authors.
